Ohio School Bans Afro Puffs and Braids!?! What Are Your Thoughts on This?


The Lorain Horizon Science Academy in Ohio is facing heat from the natural hair community after a copy of a letter to parents that included a ban on afro puffs and ‘small twisted braids’ was posted online.

The dress code restrictions highlight an age-old struggle that naturals face from both within and outside of the black community. Our hair is viewed as radical, funky or unruly in its natural state, and restrictions are sometimes placed on us in academic and professional settings that do not extend to our non-black counterparts. Is this a good restriction to be included in an official schools’ dress code. What are your thoughts about this?

  1. why not just concentrate on education and leave the raising of kids to their parents, if people would just ignore it and stop fussing over differences of opinion people can get to the important stuff on hand and get to teaching kids the basics of reading writting math and whatever else strikes the kids fancy like computers or something. public schools are for education not for indoctrintion, unfortunantly that is what is it is being used for.
